Dylan Edwards went 79 yards on the Indians’s first offensive play from scrimmage and Joey Cicoria scored two defensive touchdowns as the Hart Indians rolled to a 49-24 non-league win over the Palmdale Falcons Friday at College of the Canyons Cougar Stadium.
The game was televised by SCVTV and will repeat throughout the week in Time Warner Cable Channel 20, AT&T U-verse Channel 99 and the SCVTV.com stream.
The Indians (1-1) put up 35 unanswered points before Palmdale (0-1) scored a touchdown in the second quarter. Edwards finished with 135 yards on just four carries before leaving the game in the first quarter with a possible rib injury.
Shane Mendenhall took over at running back, finishing with 48 yards on 10 carries and a touchdown.
Starting sophomore quarterback Connor Wingenroth finished the game 6-of-7 for 66 yards and a touchdown. Senior Cory Mayes also saw action at quarterback, completeing 3-of-4 for 20 yards and a touchdown. Both TD passes were caught by Tim White, who led all receivers with five catches for 53 yards.
Hart middle linebacker Joey Cicoria recovered a fumble in the back of the end zone in the first quarter for a touchdown and then intercepted a Sean Gutierrez pass and ran 45 yards for another score in the second quarter.
The Falcons were led by sophomore running back D’Mario Richard, who collected 142 yards on just seven carries.
