The Repertory East Playhouse in Newhall will hold a final dress rehearsal known as Actor Benefit Night for the Neil Simon comedy, “Laughter on the 23rd Floor,” on Thursday, Sept. 16, during the city of Santa Clarita’s Senses event.
The REP’s Hydeaway Lounge opens at 7 p.m., and the show starts at 8 p.m. A $10 cash donation is requested for the special event and all proceeds go to the cast members.
The Broadway hit “Laughter on the 23rd Floor” is an homage to the author’s early days in show business when he worked as a junior jokesmith for the Sid Caesar’s “Your Show of Shows.” Simon was stuck in a room with some of the looniest comedy writers ever, who grew up to become Mel Brooks, Larry Gelbart and others. The play is a memoir told by Neil Simon’s alter ego, Lucas. As the writers try to top each other with gags while competing for the attention of head madman Max Prince, Max contends with the NBC brass who fear his humor is too sophisticated for middle America.
The REP production is directed by Brad Sergi and stars Jack Impellizzeri, Cameron Fife, Nathan T. Inzerillo, Michael Hanna, Amber Van Schwinn, Jymn Magon, Daniel Lench, Shannon Bouknight and Kyle Kulish.
The REP is located at 24266 Main St. For information and reservations call 661-288-0000 or visit repeastplayhouse.org.
