The William S. Hart Union High School District is honored to have three of its high schools participating in the Ronald Reagan National Football Coin Toss for Sportsmanship at football games on Friday evening, Sept. 23.

Football teams across the country are honoring the Reagan Centennial by partnering with the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and using the commemorative Reagan Centennial Coin in their pre-game coin toss.

Participants in the coin toss will include 32 National Football League (NFL) teams, 120 National Collegiate Athletic Association D1 (NCAA) football teams, National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) football teams, and nearly 14,000 high school football teams.

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation has planned many celebratory events in order to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Ronald Reagan’s birth. Through public outreach and education, the nationwide Centennial Celebration will pay tribute and honor the life of Ronald Reagan. Football plays a significant role in the Centennial Celebration because Reagan played football in high school and college and was a lifelong fan.

Hart District participants include Canyon, West Ranch and Valencia High Schools. District administrators are extremely supportive of this event and the positive role of sportsmanship that the event represents. Governing Board members Robert Jensen Jr. and Paul Strickland will be on hand for the coin toss at the West Ranch game and Superintendent Rob Challinor will participate in the festivities at the Canyon game.

September 23 Football games involved in this program: Canyon High School vs. Camarillo High School at home, 7:30 pm; West Ranch High School vs. Silverado High School at Valencia High School, 7 pm; and Valencia High School vs. Palmdale High School at Palmdale, 7 pm.

“We are honored to be participating in the Reagan Centennial program,” Challinor said. “Hart District high school principals are highly supportive of this event that will highlight the positive role of sportsmanship in students’ lives.”
