In a joint partnership, KHTS AM-1220 radio and SCVTV have combined resources to launch a nightly five-minute local television newscast.
“SCV NewsBreak” is televised on SCVTV every evening at 6 p.m., repeating at the top of each prime-time hour. A videocast is available for 24/7 on-demand viewing on the Internet at SCVNews.com and HomeTownStation.com. Past shows are archived at SCVTV.com.
“This is a tremendous new service for our listeners and viewers,” said KHTS co-owner Carl Goldman. “It’s another way for local residents to stay informed and it’s so easy to watch, whether on Time Warner Cable, AT&T U-verse or on one of our websites.”
“We’re happy to work with such an established news organization as KHTS to help bring ultra-local SCV news to the SCVTV audience,” SCVTV President Leon Worden said.
“SCVTV already has some great sports, education, entertainment and event coverage,” Worden said, “but television viewers in the Santa Clarita Valley haven’t had a go-to place for general news of the SCV. Now we’re pleased to say they do.”
SCVTV reaches 75 to 80 percent of SCV households on Time Warner Cable Channel 20 and AT&T U-verse Channel 99/Santa Clarita, figures from the city of Santa Clarita show. HomeTownStation.com and SCVNews.com reach everyone with an Internet connection.
“SCV NewsBreak” is a joint venture between SCVTV and KHTS. SCVTV Production Manager Megan Mann-Perez is the producer, with Ryan Haslam of KHTS as the newscast’s main anchor. KHTS News Director Carol Rock and newsman Mark Archuleta fill in. SCVTV Sports Director Dave Caldwell provides sports coverage, local journalist Stephen K. Peeples covers the SCV entertainment scene, and news stories are generated by both organizations.
“By combining our resources we’re able to extend the news coverage for entities,” KHTS co-owner Jeri Seratti-Goldman said. “We don’t both need to cover the same car crash. With our partnership, one of our reporters can be on the scene of breaking news while freeing up the other team to pursue a different news story.”
As the newscast builds in popularity, more features will be added, Goldman said.
“This will get better with time,” he said. “We have given ourselves a tremendous boost in covering the next emergency in Santa Clarita. Sharing resources and expertise will be a significant asset to all of our emergency coverage.”
“Partnerships such as this are the key to future success for local media organizations in the current environment,” Worden said, noting that SCVTV formally collaborates on projects with a variety of partners including the city of Santa Clarita, College of the Canyons, William S. Hart Union High School District, and the Newhall, Saugus, Sulphur Springs and Castaic school districts.
