The Student Government at College of the Canyons is inviting all students and community members to a public candidate forum for the four candidates seeking election to the Santa Clarita Community College District Board of Trustees in November.
The ASG-sponsored candidate forum will take place from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, in the College of the Canyons Board Room, located in Hasley Hall, Room 137 on the Valencia campus.
This event is open to the public and offers a chance for local voters to ask questions and make their voices heard in front of the pool of candidates who will be serving as the district’s future elected officials.
The forum will begin with each candidate delivering an opening two-minute statement. Each candidate will then have an opportunity to answer several pre-formulated questions that will be directed toward all participants.
To conclude the event, members of the audience will then have an opportunity to submit questions that will be directed to the candidates by forum mediator and SCCCD student trustee, Nick Onyshko.
The following candidates for the SCCCD Board of Trustees have confirmed their attendance for this event (listed in alphabetical order):
Bruce Fortine —incumbent, Seat 4
Patrick Hill — candidate, Seat 5
Diana Shaw — candidate, Seat 4
Scott Wilk — incumbent, Seat 5
Michele Jenkins, incumbent candidate, Seat 2, who is running unopposed, will be in attendance, but is not expected to take part in the candidate forum.
The ASG is the representative voice of the students at College of the Canyons, and is the student organization responsible for coordinating social, cultural, educational and service programs for the campus.
