This week’s SCVTV/AMG & Associates Student-Athlete of the Week is Taylor McKnight of Golden Valley. Taylor carries a 4.08 GPA and scored 1550 on his first attempt at the SAT. As a football player he is realistic and knows as a 5-foot-7 offensive lineman his options increase due to his good grades.
“I like my grades because I know I’m not big enough compared to some of the other big D-1 athletes,” Taylor said. “I could go to any of those schools because of my choice… because of my grades. And possibly I could walk on (the football team) but I know my career will be based on my academics and my grades.”
Taylor was born with his cranial plates fused, meaning he could die unless surgeons broke apart his skull in order for his head and brain to grow. Now he is looking at TCU, Boise State, Colorado and the University of Notre Dame to expand his brain.
“I was giving my mom a hard time because she is a big USC fan,” he said. “And when I was little and started playing those video games, before I even started playing football, I found out (Notre Dame and USC) were rivals. Then I think it was around kindergarten or first grade I watched “Rudy” for the first time and that was probably the first movie I ever cried when watching.”
His love for sports will keep this young man in the game long after his playing days end.
“I want to major in sports management and communications,” Taylor said. “I want to become a sports agent. If not that I want to go into communications and journalism and try to get a job with ESPN or Fox Sports.”
Congratulations to Taylor McKnight of Golden Valley High School, the SCVTV/AMG & Associates Student-Athlete of the Week.
