This week’s SCVTV/AMG & Associates Student-Athlete of the Week is Garret Miller from Canyon. Garret has a cumulative GPA of 4.36 and scored 1700 on the SAT.
“I’m more of a worker than a thinker,” Garret said immediately after stating his test score. “I guess you could say I come from a blue collar family. My dad’s constantly working from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 every day and my mom’s a teacher and a waitress, so I’ve learned the value of hard work. It’s like with football… it’s discipline and hard work.”
These values in him come directly from his parents.
“They just come home and sit down and relax and it’s that big ‘whew’ of you know you put in a hard day’s work,” he said. “It’s something that I love. I’ll come home from football and you still gotta hit the books and stuff, but by the time you’re done you sit down and you feel accomplished and you get that same satisfaction that you see you’ve been taught from your parents.”
When it comes to colleges Garret is still undecided on what direction he wants to take. He is thinking of the University of San Diego, Azusa Pacific, Drexel, but it’s not like he has a dream of a college to attend or a field of study he wants to take.
“I’m not much of like a small campus kind of guy,” he said. “I mean, I’ll take anything I can get, but at the same time I’d like to get the big school kind of feel… But I haven’t decided what I want to major in but I think it would be really cool to do something like kinesiology or sports medicine. I like physical work and I don’t want to grow up and just sit behind a desk all day. I’d rather be out and helping people, push people, and staying in shape myself.
Congratulations to Garret Miller of Canyon High School, the SCVTV/AMG & Associates Student-Athlete of the Week.
