[SCVYR] – Two weeks after hosting the first city council candidate forum, the Santa Clarita Valley Young Republicans gathered at Republican Headquarters Monday night to discuss the several platforms which the five candidates are running and vote on endorsements. In a highly attended meeting, incumbents Laurie Ender and Bob Kellar each received endorsements from the Young GOPers as well as challenger Jon Hatami.
The Y.R.s are inspired by Kellar’s dedication to community and noted his 12 years of service on the council preceded by a career in the LAPD and service in the U.S. Army.
Mayor Ender has been a constant and continuous supporter of the SCV Young Republicans. “Laurie’s unwavering support and encouragement of the Young Republicans has been critical to the success of not only our organization but also of our community events. We have been fortunate to have Laurie among the ranks of our vibrant associate membership and we are proud to announce her endorsement,” SCV YR President Devon Cormier stated.
Newcomer Jon Hatami also earned the endorsement of the Young Republican group. Hatami, a Canyon High graduate, is an Army Veteran and currently serves as a Deputy District Attorney in Antelope Valley. He is running on a pro-family, anti-crime platform according to his website and statements he has made throughout his campaign. “The Young Republican membership was invigorated and excited by Hatami’s passion displayed at the recent candidate forum. He cares deeply about his community and is the type of leader we would be glad to have on the council,” said YR Treasurer Sarah Kittinger.
