The Hart softball team collected 25 hits against Moorpark, and needed every one of them in a 14-13 win.
Tracey Chandless was 5-for-5 at the plate for Hart. She hit a home run, a double and drove in five runs.
Blake Lewis had four hits and drove in two runs for Hart. Sammy Leibman and Jessie Jones each had two hits for the Indians.
It was a good day for the Golden Valley softball and boys tennis teams.
The Golden Valley softball team won its first game of the season, 10-0, in five innings over Vasquez.
Erica Esparza was 2-for-2 with a triple and drove in two runs.
The Golden Valley boys tennis team beat Quartz Hill, 10-8, to even its record at 2-2.
The Valencia boys volleyball team lost its second match in row to open the season. The Vikings were swept by Westlake in three games.
Valencia was ranked No. 4 in the CIF Southern Section Division 2 preseason poll. The Vikings have lost two matches to teams ranked in the top 10 of the Division 1 poll. Westlake is the No. 6 team. Valencia opened the season with a loss to seventh-ranked Thousand Oaks.
Eric Ensing had 10 kills for Valencia against Westlake.
The Master’s College men’s basketball team beat Corban from Oregon, 86-63, in the first round of the National Christian College Athletic Association West Regional playoffs.
Devin Dyer led five players from The Master’s College in double figures. He scored 25 points, had seven assists and made five 3-pointers. Jon Hogan scored 16 points off the bench.
The Master’s College plays Hope International in the second round of the West Regional today.
In baseball, the Dodger and the A’s played to a 3-3 tie in Cactus League action. Aaron Harang gave up two runs in two innings in his Dodger spring training debut. Cory Sullivan was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the Dodgers.
Hart High graduate James Shields made his spring training debut for the Tampa Bay Rays and pitched two hitless innings in 4-0 win over the Yankees.
Shields struck out two in his short outing.
In hockey, the Kings are in Columbus for a game against the Blue Jackets tonight.
The Kings traded defenseman Jack Johnson to the Blue Jackets for center Jeff Carter two weeks ago. Since the trade, the Kings have won three games in a row and four of their past five.
