SCV designers took to the stage Sunday night at the Hyatt Regency Valencia to raise money to promote and fund the education of community women.
Models from the Santa Clarita School of Performing Arts and community leaders decked out in attire by local designers Fresh Lifestyle and J. David’s Custom Clothiers, trekked down the catwalk, posing and turning while designers displayed clothes for sale.
The show, dubbed “Fashion, Fun & Fantasy,” also featured Boston-native comedian Jackie Flynn, as well as fantasy-like hair-dos from Salon Glo.
“We are doing this because women and girls not only all over the world are struggling,” said Sue Reynolds, president of Soroptimist International of Greater Santa Clarita Valley.
Soroptimist International of Greater Santa Clarita Valley is a 501c(3) volunteer organization for women that encourages women to seek resources and share them with those less fortunate.
The organization supports a number of programs including the Violet Richardson Award, which honors girls between the ages of 14 to 17 for community volunteerism.
“By helping to provide resources for education, we are doing the one thing that has a lasting effect on women and girls,” she said.
With a membership of nearly 100 women, Soroptimist International of Greater Santa Clarita Valley works to promote the health and education of women.
“We believe that education is a key element of any woman’s opportunity to grow — to build a career, to enjoy her community, to forecast her family’s future of success,” Reynolds said.
“With appropriate education, a woman can discover her potential and live her dreams,” she added.
