Former Golden Valley High School basketball standout Trevor Wiseman is leaving the University of Hawaii’s basketball program, head coach Gib Arnold announced Friday.
Wiseman, a 6-foot-7, 210-pound sophomore wing, asked for his release, UH officials confirmed. He averaged 5.1 points and 4.2 rebounds per game during his two seasons with the Rainbow Warriors. He also notched 45 steals in 61 career games played. This season, Wiseman averaged 6.2 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.
“I am grateful for the two years Trevor gave us,” Arnold said. “I thought his hustle was contagious and helped us in many games. I am most proud of his accomplishments in the classroom. After struggling his first semester he was able to turn that around and became a fine student. I hope Trevor can find a program where he can be a starter as he desires. We all wish him the best.”
Wiseman will become the third UH basketball player to leave the program in just over a month. Junior Josten Thomas decided to forego his senior season to pursue professional basketball, while sophomore Bobby Miles said he wished to transfer to a school closer to home in Southern California.
Wiseman was indefinitely suspended by UH coach Arnold on February 6th after he refused to re-enter the Rainbow Warriors’ game at San Jose State February 4th. In that game, he was benched following a two-minute stint of playing time.
He was reinstated to the team February 10.
