The Hart and Valencia baseball teams are wasting no time in the CIF playoffs. Both teams have wild-card games today in the Southern Section Division 1 baseball playoffs.
Valencia is home for a game against Corona. Hart is on the road and plays Simi Valley.
West Ranch, the Foothill League champion, begins its playoff run on Friday against the winner of the wild-card game between Canyon of Anaheim and Riverside Poly.
Saugus, the Foothill League runner-up, plays Oxnard, the second-place team from the Pacific View League in the first round.
The CIF softball playoffs begin today as well with Hart on the road in a wild-card game against Upland.
West Ranch, Saugus and Valencia begin playoffs on Thursday. The Wildcats, the winners of the Foothill League, play El Modena.
Saugus is home against La Palma Kennedy in the first round. Valencia is on the road and plays Los Osos.
In the CIF volleyball playoffs, Valencia and West Ranch are in the semifinals tonight. If both teams win, it will be an all-Santa Clarita Valley championship match.
Valencia is at Oak Park. West Ranch travels to play Corona del Mar.
In college golf, the College of the Canyons men’s team fell a stroke short of winning the California Community College Athletic Association championship at Santa Maria Country Club.
COC was tied with College of the Desert with team scores of 729. The championship was decided by each team’s sixth golfer and Desert won on a card-off.
Derek Larson led COC with a 2-under 142 over the two rounds of the tournament. Desert’s Austin Grey had the low round of the tournament, a 5-under 139.
In the NBA playoffs, the Lakers laid an egg in Oklahoma City in Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinal.
The Lakers lost to the Thunder, 119-90, and were down by as many as 33 points.
Game 2 is in Oklahoma City on Wednesday.
In the NHL playoffs, the Kings can take a 2-0 lead in the Western Conference final against the Phoenix Coyotes tonight.
The Kings won Game 1, 4-2, behind two goals from Dwight King.
