[SCV Blue Heat] – The Pali Blues defeated the Santa Clarita Blue Heat 2-0 Sunday afternoon at Valencia High School. This was the second game and win for Pali and the first game of the season for the Blue Heat.
Pali came out strong and aggressive, with Ann Tangorra taking advantage of the Blue Heat on a counter attack, netting a second shot on goal after the first was initially blocked by Santa Clarita Goalkeeper Cynthia Jacobo, who had seven saves throughout the game. The second Pali goal was scored by Nikki Washington, unassisted, in the 51st minute. Goalkeeper Ana Maria Picarelli rounded out the game with 11 saves.
The Blue Heat took a total of 11 shots on goal throughout the game, including two solid shots by forward Rachel Nuzzolese. Fresh off her week with the U-23 National Training Camp at the Home Depot Center, Nadia Link entered the game in the second half taking two unsuccessful shots on goal. Portuguese nationals Edite Fernandes and Ana Borges also entered the game in the second half, but failed to get the Blue Heat on the scoreboard.
The Blue Heat will visit the LA Strikers next Sunday, May 27 at Occidental College and will have a rematch with the Pali Blues on the following Saturday in Pacific Palisades, before returning home on June 10 to battle the Victoria Highlanders.
