[LASD] – The number of part-1 crimes increased this week with a total of 23 reported crimes in the Valencia area. The crimes reported were an attempt car-jacking, vehicle burglaries, grand theft vehicles, and miscellaneous shoplifting reports from various businesses in the Valencia area. Out of the shoplifting reports, deputies arrested one female adult, one male adult, and one male juvenile all whom reside within the Santa Clarita Valley.
The attempt carjacking occurred on the 24000 block of Golf View Drive on 08/03/2012 at approximately 12:00 am. The victim went outside to move her vehicle from the street to her garage when the suspect jumped in front of the vehicle and attempted to enter through the passenger side door. The victim immediately drove away and called the Sheriff’s Department. Sheriff’s Deputies canvased the area for the suspect but could not locate him at the time of the incident. Based on a previous call for service describing the same suspect, deputies were able to identify the suspect. The suspect (a white male, 26 years old from Valencia) was arrested by the Santa Clarita Valley Community Oriented Policing (COPS) team. The case is being handled by Santa Clarita Station Detectives.
SUV OWNERES BEWARE! Thieves are targeting high end SUV’s with navigation/dvd systems and third row seats. We had five reported vehicle burglaries occur between 08/03-08/04, from 12:30-7:00 am. Most of the vehicles were parked on residential streets in the vicinity of McBean Parkway and Orchard Village Road, Valencia. All reports indicated their driver side door locks had been tampered with. These cases are currently being investigated. Anyone with information regarding these occurrences is urged to contact the Sheriff’s Station at 661-255-1121.
There were three reports of vehicles being stolen from various locations. The vehicles were a ‘96 Honda Civic, ‘09 Honda Accord, and a ‘97 Nissan Altima. These vehicles were stolen from the 23000 block of Avenida Rotella, from Valencia Blvd., and from the 27000 block of Avenue Mentry. Two of the three vehicles were recovered the following day.
With the increase of new gyms/fitness facilities opening in the Valencia area, it’s important to take steps to keep from being victimized. Be aware of your surroundings. Secure all personal belongings and do not leave your valuables visible in your vehicles. Place the item(s) in the trunk area. Roll up all windows and lock all doors before leaving your vehicle. When possible try to park in well-lit and highly visible areas.
Report all suspicious activity by calling the Sheriff’s Station at 661-255-1121.
