Harry Jose
[LASD] – In September 2009, the Canyon Country Athletic Association, a youth football league that promotes football and cheerleading in the Santa Clarita Valley, filed a report alleging an embezzlement of funds by former CCAA Treasurer, Harry Jose.
After an investigation that included an extensive analysis of Jose’s bank accounts, it was determined that Jose had embezzled a total of $256,880.00 from the CCAA over a period of four years and had forged numerous CCAA checks in the process. The monies stolen by Jose had come to the CCAA via club dues paid by hundreds of parents of youth football players and cheerleaders from across the Santa Clarita Valley. These dues allow the club to purchase equipment for the players, pay fees to reserve playing fields, and other miscellaneous costs.
On March 12, a criminal complaint was filed against Jose alleging one felony count of grand theft and 11 felony counts of forgery.
On Aug. 29, Jose entered a “no contest” plea to one count of grand theft and two counts of forgery. As a result of this plea, Jose was ordered to pay $100,000 in restitution, be placed on probation, and serve one year in county jail. At sentencing on Dec. 5, current CCAA Treasurer Michael Harand is scheduled to address the court on behalf of the CCAA and its members regarding the long term impact the theft has had on the club.

So he ends up with a $156,880.00 profit for his criminal actions? He’ll maybe do 9 months, if not less, in county. Where exactly is the “justice” in this conviction?
