When a child comes into the emergency room at any hospital, it’s a scary place. Between the lights and noise and activity, plus being sick or injured, the ER can be an overwhelming place.
Nearly 9,000 children are brought to the ER at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital every year and the hospital has come up with a way for our community to offer these children some comfort.
According to the hospital, approximately 25 children come to the HMNMH ER every day, amounting to an astounding number of youngsters needing something to hug while they deal with their health emergencies.
Nothing says “I care” like a comforting teddy bear. HMNMH will be collecting donations of new 9- to 12-inch teddy bear. Community members are invited to bring these bears to a special ceremony from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, September 9 in front of the hospital’s main entrance.
The drive is being supported by local Brownie and Girl Scout troops, who will be there on that day to receive the donations. In addition, young Scarlett Piercy, whose life was saved by Henry Mayo’s Emergency Department at the age of three will be there with her mom to share her story.
The hospital is located at 23871 McBean Parkway in Valencia.
