African-American students throughout the Hart School District are invited to attend a college night hosted by Golden Valley High School on Tuesday, Sept. 18, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., in the school’s theater.
This event is open to all Hart District high school students, however, is designed for African- American students interested in learning more about various college opportunities. This event is coordinated by Valencia High School parent, Maisah Howard and Golden Valley counselor Devorah Robinson.
Students attending the college night will be able to talk with representatives from UC, CSU, USC, University of Arizona, Oregon State, Howard University and community college transfer representatives. Representatives for financial aid and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and high school counselors will be on hand to answer questions.
In the past few years, the Hart School District has also hosted a similar night for Latino students which proved to be a rewarding experience for those who attended.
Students not attending Golden Valley High School are asked to bring a copy of their recent transcripts (Golden Valley students will be provided with their transcript) to the college fair so admission representatives and counselors can review and guide students toward college consideration.
No RSVP required. For questions, please contact Maisah Howard, parent coordinator at 661.433.5118 or howard6@sbcglobal.net or Devorah Robinson, Golden Valley counselor at 661.298.8140 or drobinson@hartdistrict.org.
