The Hart football team, ranked No.2 in the CIF Southern Section Northern Division poll, will look to win its third game in a row Friday night against Birmingham at College of the Canyons.
It is the home opener for Hart, which is coming off huge wins against Ridgeview and La Palma Kennedy.
The Valencia football team, ranked No. 6 in the Northern Division, is on the road against Santa Monica.
The Golden Valley football team takes on Sherman Oaks Notre Dame at Canyon High School.
West Ranch plays St. Francis, the No. 4 team in the Western Division, at Valencia High School.
Saugus plays Taft in Woodland Hills.
The Santa Clarita Christian football team is on the road and plays Mark Keppel.
The Trinity football team is at Fulton College Prep.
In high school cross country, the Saugus boys and girls teams won the first Foothill League meet of the season at Central Park.
Canyon’s Zach Wims won the boys race, finishing ahead of Nolan Del Valle from Golden Valley in 15 minutes, 22.8 seconds over the 3-mile course.
The Saugus boys had five runners in the top 13. Rodrigo Ornelas was the top-finishing runner for the Centurions in third place.
Golden Valley’s Chelsey Totten won the girls race in 17 minutes, 40.84 seconds.
Two runners from Saugus followed Totten. Samantha Ortega was second and Abilgail Frankian was third. Six runners from Saugus finished in the top 15.
In high school volleyball, the Hart girls swept reigning City Section champion Granada Hills in three games to win their fourth match of the season.
The Santa Clarita Christian girls lost to Calvary Chapel in five games.
The Trinity girls were swept by AGBU in three games.
In high school tennis, the Valencia girls beat Golden Valley, 15-3.
The Hart girls beat Saugus, 14-3.
The Dodgers continue to struggle to score runs. They lost, 4-1, to the Washington Nationals and dropped farther out of a wild-card playoff spot.
The Dodgers are in Cincinnati to start a weekend series with the Reds today.
