Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Crime Prevention Unit
[LASD] – Valencia (Zone 5) had twenty-two Part-1 crimes reported during the past week. These incidents included one attempted residential burglary, one vehicle burglary, two assaults, two rapes, shoplifting reports from local Valencia businesses, and commercial burglaries.
There were seven commercial burglaries that occurred in various areas of Valencia. All the incidents occurred between the hours of 6:00 pm-4:30 am. The suspects smashed windows and front doors at the locations. Items stolen were U.S currency. Two suspects were arrested in connection with these burglaries.
One attempted residential burglary occurred on the 24000 block of Arroyo Parkway Drive at 2:30 am. The suspect attempted to gain entry into a residence by entering through a locked sliding glass door. No items were stolen during this incident. A suspect was later arrested and is currently in custody.
A vehicle burglary occurred on the 28000 block of Newhall Ranch Road between the hours of 6:00 pm and 7:30 pm. Entry and exit was made by smashing a passenger window. A purse which was located on the floorboard of the vehicle was stolen. No suspect(s) were located at the time of the report.
Two assaults occurred this week. One of the assaults occurred on a Santa Clarita Transit Bus. An argument between the victim and the suspect resulted in a physical altercation. The victim was badly beaten. The suspect has been identified and Santa Clarita Detectives are working the case. The other assault occurred on the 23000 block of Tamarack Lane at 5:00 pm. The suspect approached the victim with a knife stating her residence generated “radar.” The suspect was quickly apprehended and arrested for the indicated criminal charge. The victim was not injured during this incident.
Two rapes involving juveniles occurred during the week. One rape occurred at the 25000 block of Avenida Rotella at 9:00 pm while the victim was walking home through the park from a friend’s house. The suspect was an acquaintance of the victim. The second rape occurred at the 27000 block of Dickason Drive at 1:30 pm involving two juveniles. The Los Angeles County Special Victim’s Bureau is currently handling both cases.
A reminder: be aware of your surroundings. Secure all personal belongings. Do not leave your personal items (purses, book bags, lap tops, etc.) unattended or visible in your vehicles. Remember to secure your vehicles by rolling up all windows, locking all doors and when possible try to park in well-lit and highly visible areas. Report all suspicious activity by calling the Sheriff’s Station at 661-255-1121.
There were seventeen arrests made by Santa Clarita Deputies assigned to the Valencia area. The criminal charges included: possession of narcotics and weapons, under the influence of alcohol, assault with a deadly weapon, rape and shoplifting from local businesses.
