The Master’s College couldn’t avoid a sweep by Biola (21-2, 7-1 GSAC), the NAIA’s fourth-ranked team. At the end of three sets (21-25, 18-25, 14-25) the Mustangs’ overall record dropped to 20-4 and 5-3 in conference play. The Lady Mustangs currently have a solid grasp on third place in the eight-team conference.
Saturday’s sweep began closer than the box score portrayed as the Lady Mustangs traded scoring spurts and remained close with the host Eagles. The Lady Mustangs even looked to take the first set as TMC strung together four unanswered points to bring the score to 24-21. However, Biola put a stop to the Mustangs’ momentum as a well-placed service ace on the part of Biola’s Amy Westeyn concluded the match at 25-21.
Set two stayed close until the two teams tied at 11-11. After a series of defensive miscues, Biola exploited TMC’s defense, and went on a five-point run, bringing the game to 16-11. Being able to only tally seven more points, the Lady Mustangs surrendered the second set as the Eagles’ offense cruised to a 25-18 victory.
The day’s third set produced similar results as Biola routed the Lady Mustangs, 25-14. TMC trailed the Eagles the entirety of the third set.
Collectively, the Lady Mustangs notched 33 kills and were held to an attack percentage of .105.
Looking to right the ship, TMC returns to the court on Tuesday, October 23, as the squad travels to Fullerton to take on the Royals of Hope International in a 7:00 PM match.
