A bank robbery suspect was killed after a Saugus robbery led to a shootout in Lancaster, according to sheriff’s officials.

Officials said only one man was involved in the robbery. His identity has not been released by officials.

Deputies returned fire at the suspect’s vehicle and then approached the suspect, according to officials.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a Bank of America that was robbed at gunpoint in the  26800  block of Bouquet Canyon Road in Saugus. The robbery occurred at 9:15 a.m., according to officials.

“There was one suspect, he drove into a residential area, drove into a cul-de-sac and then an exchange of gunfire occurred,” according to Lt. Robles of the Sheriff’s Department .

“The suspect is being treated at the scene,” he said.

Initial reports from the Sheriff’s Department stated the suspect turned and fired on deputies after they warned and confronted the suspect.

The suspect was being pursued on Highway 14. That has come to an end at the Avenue H exit in Lancaster. The vehicle is believed to be registered to an Agua Dulce address.

No deputies were injured and no one was hurt in the robbery.

The suspect’s vehicle was stopped by spike strips after about 20 minutes of pursuit.

The scene of the robbery is currently being investigated by local and federal law enforcement officials.

LASD Press Release, 11/9/2011:

Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau detectives responded to the 45900 block of Desert Springs Drive, Lancaster, to investigate the circumstances surrounding a deputy-involved hit shooting.

No deputies were injured and the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators learned that deputies responded to Bank of America regarding an Armed Bank Robbery that just occurred at the 26800 block of North Bouquet Canyon Road, Saugus.

The suspect fled the location and led the deputies in a pursuit northbound on the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway. He exited the freeway after Lancaster Sheriff’s Station deputies laid down spike strips along the freeway and caused the vehicle’s tires to puncture. The suspect stopped his vehicle in a cul-de-sac in the 45900 block of Desert Springs Drive, Lancaster and refused to comply with deputies’ commands to drop his weapon. After several commands and the use of less lethal weapons, the suspect fired his weapon at deputies and a deputy involved shooting occurred.

The suspect’s name has not been released.

Whenever an Officer-Involved Shooting occurs involving Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies, and it results in a fatality, multiple independent investigations immediately begin at the scene. These include separate investigations by the Offices of the L.A. Co. District Attorney and the L.A. Co. Coroner, in addition to Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau and Internal Affairs Bureau. Attorneys with the Los Angeles Office of Independent Review also respond to the scene, and have full access to the facts known to the sheriff’s department throughout every phase of these thorough investigations. Once concluded, every aspect of the shooting is reviewed by the Sheriff’s Executive Force Review Committee.

It was horrible to watch! God knows how desperate he must had been to have robbed a bank and even if he robbed it to go to the Bahamas he didn’t deserved to die that way. My prayers go to his family. May he rest in peace.

    • Common Sense says:

He didn’t die because he robbed the bank! He died because he shot at the police. And if he did rob the bank to go to the Bahamas or anywhere else, desperate or not, he is an idiot. My prayers go out to all the innocent people who’s lives he affected. God knows how many kids saw that fool and have to remember that scene forever.
