The College of the Canyons football team has earned an invite to the Southern California Bowl and will travel to Santa Ana College on Saturday, Nov. 17 for a 6 p.m. game.
The Cougars finished the regular season winning four of the last five games and completed the season with a 6-4 overall record and a 4-2 National Division, Northern Conference record, good for third place.
Santa Ana, a member of the National Division, Southern Conference, also came in third place in its conference. The Dons were 7-3 after the regular season and had won their last five games until meeting Fullerton in the final regular season game, where they lost 57-23.
The game will mark the third time that the Cougars and Dons have met. The two squads played a home-away series in 2001 and 2002 with both teams winning on their home field.
Head coach Garett Tujague earns his fifth bowl game invite, in his sixth season at the helm of the football program. He holds a 3-4 record in post-season contests.
This will be COC’s first invitation to a post-season bowl since the 2010 season. Canyons has lost the last three bowl games it has participated in. The last time COC won a bowl game was in the 2008 season when the team beat El Camino 36-27 in the Southern California Championship.
