Democrats living in the 38th Assembly District interested in becoming a delegate to the California Democratic Party State Convention are invited to apply at http://www.cadem.org/page?id=0080. The 38th AD Delegates election will take place on January 13, 2013. The election will be held at the Granada Pavilion, 11128 Balboa Blvd in Granada Hills, which is behind Trader Joes north of San Fernando Mission Blvd. Doors open at 1 p.m . Registration for voting closes promptly at 3 p.m. and the meeting then begins with each candidate having an opportunity to speak. Participants who do not wish to attend the full length of the meeting may sign-in, vote, and leave. The meeting will conclude by 5 p.m.
There will be 12 people (six men and six women) elected to represent the 38th AD for both the 2013 and 2014 State Conventions. Duties include attending the annual conventions in 2013 and 2014, attending meetings to endorse candidates for statewide legislative and congressional offices, networking with other Democrats, representing Democrats in the 38th AD, helping to elect Party offices, promoting the CA Democratic Party agenda, and voting to endorse resolutions and ballot measures.
All Democrats living in the district are encouraged to come out and vote. To vote you must have been a registered Democrat in the district by October 22, 2012, unless you turn 18 or become naturalized after the deadline and become registered by the time of the meeting. Voter registration will be available at the meeting.
The Assembly District Delegates and Assembly District Executive Board representatives will be elected at Assembly District Election Meetings (ADEMs) held in each of the 80 Assembly Districts. The Assembly District consists of Simi Valley, Santa Clarita Valley, and the parts of Chatsworth, Northridge, Porter Ranch and Granada Hills north of Devonshire or west of Topanga Canyon. The district does not include the area of Granada Hills that is both north of the 118 and east of Balboa.
Democrats interested in running to be an Assembly District Delegate must file with the State Party by 5:00 p.m. Friday, December 14, 2012 for the January 13, 2013 meeting. The application to file to be a candidate requires a $20.00 filing fee which can be paid on-line at the CA Democratic Party website.
Democrats wishing to attend and vote in the election are asked to pay a $5 donation to defray the cost of the event or sign a form declaring that to pay the fee would constitute an economic hardship.
