The College of the Canyons women’s basketball team defeated Mira Costa and College of the Desert, but fell to the host college, Pasadena City College, in the round-robin Rose City Classic.
Casey Sheller’s 12 points led four Cougars in double figures as College of the Canyons defeated Mira Costa, 71-50, in the first round of the Rose City Classic at Pasadena. Mariah Howard chipped in 11 points and both Hope Smith and Dalisa Chapman had 10.
After leading by 16 at the half, COC cruised to a 95-66 victory over College of the Desert in the second round of the Rose City Classic. Six Cougars scored in double figures with Smith scoring a season-high 18 and Howard had 16 points.
In the third and final game, turnovers (30) once again led to the demise of the Cougars, falling to host Pasadena, 62-60 in the final game of the Rose City Classic. COC led by eight late in the second half but turned the ball over three times in a row to let the Lancers take the lead and hold on for a 2-point win.
Scheller was named to the all-tournament team. COC travels to the Orange Coast Christmas Classic on Dec. 14 for a three-day tournament.
