Last week Newhall saw a slight increase in Part-1 crimes with 14 reported. Newhall saw 4 grand theft auto incidents, 1 assault, 2 vehicle burglaries, 1 commercial burglary, 4 incidents of grand theft, 1 shoplifting, and 1 petty theft.
On Monday, April 22, 2013 at approximately 1:45 a.m., a 1993 Honda Accord was reported stolen from the 25200 block of Fourl Road. Another Honda Accord was also stolen on Monday, April 22, 2013 from the 24100 block of Railroad Avenue. The victim left his vehicle unlocked with the ignition key inside. A 2003 BMW was stolen from the intersection of Sweet Shade Lane and Ficus Drive in the late night hours on Saturday, April 27, 2013. The victim reported he accidentally left his ignition key in the vehicle. A 2002 Toyota Tacoma was stolen over the weekend from the 23700 block of Valle Del Oro.
A catalytic converter was reported stolen from a vehicle that was parked on Newhall Avenue and the 14 Freeway (Park-n -Ride) (ref-05656).
A shoplifting incident was reported from the Radio Shack located on Lyons Avenue. Electronics were stolen (ref -05651).
A vehicle burglary was reported from the 24600 block of Walnut Street. The driver side window was smashed and a bag was stolen. Another vehicle burglary was reported from the area of Valle Del Oro and Grape Lily Street. The front passenger window was smashed and a black backpack was stolen.
Many arrests were made in Newhall (Zone 6) during the past week. On Monday, April 22, 2013 at approximately 12:45 a.m., deputies contacted a male who was looking inside a parked vehicle in the area of Walnut Street and Lyons Avenue. Deputies could smell the odor of marijuana emitting from his person. Deputies discovered the male was in possession of concentrated cannabis and marijuana. Jose Ceja, a 32 year-old male from Canyon Country was arrested and booked at Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station (ref- 05418). No further information is available at this time.
