A Bank of America branch in the 24000 block of Valley Street in the Newhall area was robbed on Saturday, May 25, at 10:30 a.m. A lone, armed suspect entered the bank with a stocking over his head and jumped over the counter, held two tellers at gun point and demanded cash. The Suspect then left the location with an unknown amount of cash in a red Toyota Camry. Within minutes, Santa Clarita Station Deputies were able to locate the suspect’s vehicle traveling northbound on Highway 14 at Sand Canyon Road and arrested 23-year-old Demarie Rashad Mackey of Palmdale.
Sheriff’s Major Crimes Detectives questioned Suspect Mackey and it is believed that he has committed at least two other bank robberies in Ventura County.
Detectives have filed three counts of robbery in relation to the Newhall Bank Robbery incident and other charges are pending. The investigation is ongoing and is a joint effort between the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, Simi Valley Police Department and Los Angeles Area Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Suspect Mackey is being held without bail regarding a warrant for a parole violation.
