Public Safety and Crime Prevention Info
Snapshot for 07/22/13 through 07/28/13

Greetings from Newhall (Zone 6). I hope everyone has had a great week. Last week Newhall only had two part one crimes, one theft from an unlocked vehicle and one petty theft reported. As of Monday, 07/29/13, Newhall (Zone 6) has had 21.09% fewer reported part one crimes compared to this same time last year. Additionally, Newhall (Zone 6) has had 19.61% fewer reported violent crimes compared to this same time last year. This decrease in crime for Newhall is outstanding. I contribute this Newhall (Zone 6) decrease in crime to the strengthening of the partnership between the residents of Newhall and our Sheriff’s station. Together we are making Newhall a great place to live.

On Thursday, 07/25/13, at approximately 1:30pm, a bicycle was reported stolen from the 24700 block of Hacienda Lane in Newhall. The bicycle was stolen from the front porch of the location (a residence). Video surveillance footage shows two Hispanic males (juveniles) walking around the home and on the property. This case is under investigation (ref – 10159).

On Monday, 07/22/13, between 7:45am and 9:00am, a theft from an unlocked vehicle was reported from the 24600 block of Wiley Canyon Road. The suspect(s) entered the unlocked vehicle and stole the victim’s purse. The victim stated she parked her vehicle and went into the gym. The purse was left on the floor of the vehicle behind the front seat (ref -09984).

REMEMBER – Always lock your vehicle, and never leave valuables in plain view.

In other Newhall (Zone 6) news…

As of Sunday, 08/04/13, I will be leaving the zone leader position. A new zone leader has been assigned. I will remain assigned to the Crime Prevention Unit (CPU), however under a different capacity per the direction of Capt. Becker. As of Sunday, I will focus my efforts on insuring safety on local public transportation (i.e. city buses). I will also be focusing on vandalism and graffiti. I will be networking with the CPU zone leaders on a daily basis to combat those types of crimes. I will also continue my duties as our station’s social media coordinator and public information officer. Social media provides a forum for people to ask questions and for you to share tips you otherwise wouldn’t share. Also through social media our station is able to spread knowledge quickly and with minimal effort that can protect our community, help catch suspects, find missing persons, etc. Capt. Becker, the CPU, and our entire station look forward to continuing to grow our social media presence and to engage the residents we serve. Remember to follow us on Twitter at @SCVSheriff and @jdLASD

I am pleased to announce that Capt. Becker has chosen Deputy Danial Dantice to be the new Newhall (Zone 6) zone leader. I have personally known Deputy Dantice for a number of years, and he is a great addition to our station’s Crime Prevention Unit (CPU). Deputy Dantice is a wealth of knowledge and will serve the residents of Newhall well. If you have any questions, concerns, or comments regarding Newhall, of course you can always email me, or you can email your new zone leader, Deputy Dantice at DLDantic@lasd.org

Over the last year and a half it has been a pleasure serving you as the Newhall (Zone 6) zone leader.

Remember to report graffiti in the city please call (661) 25-CLEAN (252-5326) or visit www.santa-clarita.com.
