schooldeskappleThe vast majority of Castaic, Newhall, Saugus Union and Sulphur Springs elementary school students are testing proficient or advanced, according to STAR score results released Thursday.

The following is a quick overview of the results for the English language arts, math and sciences, which are displayed with links to the complete data for each district, including the Acton Agua Dulce Unified School District.

While the state’s Legislature and Department of Education are looking at various plans to phase out the tests, including the replacement with a computerized version, the pencil-and-paper exams are still the benchmark the state uses to look at school and district progress.

The STAR scores will be analyzed and reviewed by the state, which then hands out an API score for schools and districts, based on progress made on the STAR tests.

The state is expected to have a revamped testing curriculum for local districts by 2014-15.
