1986 - COC board votes to allow Argentine cliff swallows to nest forever on sides of buildings [story]
swallows

Due to the close proximity of the Interstate 5 freeway, which is an artery of travel for both legal and illegal activities (such as narcotics and human trafficking or smuggling) throughout the state, personnel assigned to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station partnered with detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Major Crimes Bureau, Vice Unit to conduct a 12-hour, “John Sting” and prostitution sweep on Friday, March 7.

castaicprostisSometimes the crimes are committed by traveling through the area and other times, by persons who are attracted by the crime potential of the major trucking  operations and the transitory nature of trucking.  Detectives have found that illegal activities which affect the quality of life for local residents occur during all hours of the day and night.

Friday’s operation utilized female deputies in an undercover capacity to pose as prostitutes, and male deputies in an undercover capacity posing as “Johns.”  The mission was to arrest and identify suspects for various prostitution violations.  Another aspect of the mission was an attempt to identify any victims of human trafficking who have been forced into prostitution.

At the conclusion of Friday’s operation, three males were placed under arrest for solicitation to engage in prostitution.  Two of the males were adult residents of Bakersfield, CA. The third male was an adult resident of the state of Massachusetts.  All three males were transported and booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and have pending court dates.

These types of operations and others just like it will continue throughout the year to ensure that criminals who choose to break the law and are caught will be arrested.
