The City of Santa Clarita, in partnership with the SCV Family of Water Suppliers, will show residents how to be clean, green, water-conserving machines at the 2014 Earth Arbor Day Festival. The environmentally-friendly event will be hosted on Saturday, April 12, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Central Park, located at 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road.

The 2014 Earth Arbor Day Festival will feature a mix of fun activities designed to help community members get into the green spirit, including tree plantings, educational presentations, recycled art exhibits, live music, eco-giveaways, food, and much more.

“The Earth Arbor Day Festival is an interactive community event promoting the importance of protecting and preserving the environment, while empowering residents with the knowledge and tools necessary to make positive changes throughout the City,” said Mayor Laurene Weste. “Community members of all ages can stop by Central Park to browse emerging green technologies and eco-friendly lifestyle solutions to help them go green in their everyday lives.”

Attendees will be able to explore six interactive zones showcasing the importance of keeping our environment clean, including the Tree Zone, Energy Zone, Eco Zone, Water Conservation Zone, Alternative Transportation and Community Organizations.

Additional activities will include lady bug education and collection, as well as a crafting booth showing participants how to make scarves from old t-shirts, or unique bird feeders using Cheerios.  Guided tours of Castaic Lake Water Agency’s Sustainable Garden and the City’s newly expanded Community Gardens will also provide valuable green thumb tips.

Residents will also be able to browse several recycled art exhibits on display at the Festival, including cArt aRt; a whimsical community art project including residential curbside recycling bins decorated with eco-friendly material.

The City of Santa Clarita will commemorate the 2014 Earth Arbor Day Festival by accepting its 24th consecutive Tree City USA award from the National Arbor Day Foundation on stage.  In honor of this prestigious award, the City will commit to planting more trees throughout the community, starting with Central Park, and will give away more than one thousand trees and mulch at the event.

Several volunteer roles are available for the 2014 Earth Arbor Day Festival, including working at Eco booths, helping to distribute mulch to residents and planting trees at Central Park.  Interested participants can register to volunteer at Santa-Clarita.com/index.aspx?page=857.
