Following the College of the Canyons hosted Western State Conference Prelims, where a handful of events acted as finals, the men’s team sits in second place and the women’s squad is in fourth place after five events.
The men’s team tallied 43.5 points on Friday afternoon and trail Glendale by 10.5 points, while the women turned in 18 points. Glendale leads the women’s competition with 56 points.

Sophomore jumper Tim White won a share of the conference title in the long jump after West LA’s Celestine Ikechi posted and identical jump of 7.12 meters. His victory improves on his 2013 finish in the same event that saw him come in fifth place with a leap of 6.87 meters.
Grant Stromberg and Kevin Felt earned eight points apiece and finished in second place in their respective events. Stromberg posted a 33:45.87 in the 10,000-meter run and Felt cleared 4.32 meters in the pole vault. Cody Moore threw the javelin 49.64 meters, good for third place and Eian Palo earned a distance of 34.49 meters in the discus for sixth place.
Freshman Jasmine Hall collected 13 points for the women’s team after finishing in second place in the javelin (36.60 meters) and fourth in the long jump (5.26 meters). Sophomore Courtney Spaulding cleared 2.80 meters in the pole vault for seventh place and freshman Ashlie Foster tossed the discus 28.79 meters to come in seventh place.
The Cougars will compete in the WSC Finals on Friday, April 25 at Antelope Valley College.
