[News Release] – Kids and parents have a chance Sunday to get a taste of a real summer camp experience — while staying close to home —as Valley Trails Summer Camp hosts its second pre-summer community open house in Castaic.

The open house will include free food, tours and the opportunity to meet other campers and counselors. And, parents who enroll their children by Sunday will receive free registration, a savings of $50 per camper.

“We’re gearing up for summer, and we enjoy these opportunities to show Santa Clarita Valley families what a complete summer camp experience we offer, right here in their own back yard,”said Camp Director Mike Stillson. “Valley Trails’close proximity enables kids to ‘go away’to a real summer camp in a rustic environment but still have the opportunity to sleep at home daily.”

The open house is scheduled 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, May 4, at the 200-acre Valley Trails camp facility, 30910 S. Sloan Canyon Road, in Castaic. Directions to the camp, a half-mile from the intersection of Sloan Canyon and Hillcrest Parkway, are available on the Valley Trails website, www.ValleyTrails.com.

Camp activities include: A zipline canopy tour, climbing wall, high ropes course, low ropes course, two triple giant swings, archery, nature, hiking, art, western town, swimming, sports, “gaga,”mud play, stand-up paddle boards and kayaking at nearby Castaic Lake, and more. All activities other than those at the lake are on-site, and all are age-appropriate and supervised by Valley Trails’trained professional counselors.

All campers attending the open house will receive a free gift from Valley Trails Summer Camp, the SCV’s only camp accredited by the American Camp Association.

Camp programs start June 16. The camp provides summer fun for children entering kindergarten through 10th grade. Valley Trails offers free express bus transportation throughout Santa Clarita, with morning pickups and afternoon drop-offs. The camp also offers extended hours for working families, a healthy, free lunch and afternoon snacks.
