College of the Canyons invites representatives of healthcare providers and governmental agencies, local educators and the general public to attend a free workshop focused on Hazardous Waste Management and Pollution Prevention Strategies for Hospitals and Medical Offices.
The workshop is being presented by Dr. Nabil Yacoub, senior environmental scientist, California Department of Toxic Substances Control.
The event is part of the California Community Colleges statewide Health Workforce Initiative.
Featured at the workshop will be topics including:
* Hazardous waste laws and regulations
* Common sources of pollutants and wastes in medical environments
* Management of hazardous wastes in healthcare facilities
* Source reduction approaches
* Pollution prevention
* Other best management practices
Throughout the presentation Yacoub will also be available to answer specific questions regarding compliance activities, while also providing attendees with other helpful resources.
Audience groups that may find this presentation of particular interest include medical office administrators, office managers, risk management professionals, facility and plant service personnel, and environmental health and safety professionals working either for a governmental agency or in the private sector.
The workshop Hazardous Waste Management and Pollution Prevention Strategies for Hospitals and Medical Offices will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, June 20, in the Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook University Center, Room 258, located on the college’s Valencia campus (University Center Drive entrance).
The workshop is free and open to the public, however due to limited seating attendees are asked to pre-register in advance by visiting http://cahazwastetrain.eventbrite.com.
