[KHTS] – Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s deputies arrested another individual Tuesday, and are seeking additional suspects in connection to a series of armed robberies reported last month, officials said Tuesday.

Deputies from the Career Offenders, Robbery Burglary and Arson, or COBRA unit, and Crime Prevention Unit deputies served two search warrants Tuesday morning, making one arrest in connection with the reports of people being robbed along while traveling on Santa Clarita bike paths.

No similar robberies have been reported since the initial arrests were made, said Deputy Josh Dubin of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s Crime Prevention Unit.

lasd112811a“So far, over the last couple of weeks, four people have been placed in custody  (in connection with the robberies), three of them are minors,” Dubin said.  “However, this still part of an active investigation.”

One juvenile suspect sought with search warrant Tuesday morning is still outstanding.

All but one of the suspects taken into custody are juveniles, which is why their identities have not been released by Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials,

Sheriff’s Station officials have identified a fifth and sixth suspect, whom they are actively seeking.

Raymond Gatica, 21, of Canyon Country, was arrested in June in connection with three reports of armed robberies committed in May.

As a result of his arrest, he was booked on a parole and sentenced to six months in jail, according to a District Attorney’s Office spokesman.

From an earlier story:

A Santa Clarita man was riding his bicycle on a path close to the wash area, near Sierra Highway and Via Princessa, around midnight May 25, when he was surrounded by eight men.

One of the men reportedly pulled a handgun, pointed it at the suspect and demanded his wallet.

The suspects then reportedly stole the victim’s wallet, backpack, cellphone and credit cards.

This was the second robbery reported that night under similar circumstances. The suspects in that incident fit a description similar to ones in the other robbery, officials said.

The following Saturday, a third armed robbery was reported  around 6 p.m. on the 18300 block of Soledad Canyon Road in Canyon Country.

  1. Great job SCV Sheriffs!

  2. Javi says:

Here is a prime example of why honest, law abiding citizens need to be issued Concealed Weapons permits. Do you think these punks would attempt these strong armed robberies if they knew that citizens were armed? The Second Amendment was designed exactly for this. Lets vote in some real change.

  3. msc545 says:

If the person who was robbed had had a gun, those eight people would have probably taken it from him and used it on him, or, he would have shot one or two of them and the rest would have beat him to death. A gun in this situation would have made it far worse, not better.

And no, I don’t think a gun would have deterred them. they probably would have just brought their own.

  4. Javi says:

    msc:
Instead of conjecture and “probablies” I would ask you to read up on actual cases where armed citizens have both stopped crimes and protected themselves and their families. And in my humble opinion, shooting a couple of bad guys isn’t making that type of situation worse, it’s actually handling the problem and making other criminals think twice before attempting these types of activities. The point is these criminals prey upon a disarmed society. Don’t even get me started on “gun-free” zones where people who think like you endanger our children every day.

  5. Javi says:

Correction, these particular criminals preyed upon subjects of a disarmed COUNTY. Much of the rest of California issued CCW permits. Again, we need to vote in real change.

And I would also like to thank SCV Sheriff Department for tracking down these dirtbags. Wow they have a tough job.

  6. Jeff says:

Only one guy had a gun.. Drop him and the rest of the scum bags run!

  7. Dee Dee Dee Dee says:

Santa Clarita have the BEST Sheriffs of the California county. Stay on they butts and keep keeping our community safe. Drug dealers and crooks will leave here when they see that the cops is staying on their ass.

  8. Jeff says:

Msc545.. Using your logic, saying a gun wouldn’t discourage them is just crazy! Are you saying cops with guns don’t discourage crime at all? Maybe we should make the cops stop using guns then? I mean it doesn’t stop or even discourage crime right?? I admit one armed person against 8 people even though only one was armed is a tough situation, but if their were several armed citizens in the area that could come to this man’s aid it would have turned the tables.. There are more good guys than bad guys.. So let the good guys be armed and stuff like this would seriously decline or end! You have to remember the bad guys don’t follow laws so they are armed already.. You may as well give the good guys a fighting chance! If you don’t want to carry a tool that could save your life or somebody else’s life then don’t.. But don’t tell me what I can or can’t do to save my life!

  9. Javi says:

Here is an example from YESTERDAY right here in California, in Fresno where the Sheriff DOES give out CCW to anyone with a clean record. This storeowner with one shotgun changed the mind of 2 armed criminals.

    whatcha think about that msc?

  10. Javi says:

Dee Dee, our deputies do a great job of dealing with the riff raff of this city, bit the actual Sheriff needs to change current policy and issue Concealed Weapons Permits and of he is unwilling to then we the people need to vote someone in with some common sense. An unarmed County populace equals sitting ducks and fish in a barrel to criminals who know they can’t defend themselves.

  11. Jim says:

Let me put it this way….My wife has a vagina. Thus she is totally capable of being a prostitute. Yet she makes a choice not to. I have a CCW. I am totally capable of commitino murder, yet I make the conscience decision not to. It is not the gun, it is the individual.God made man, Colonel Colt made man equal. Admiral Yamamoto, during WI I stated he would not invade the US because there would be a rifle behind every blade of grass. If that is not a deterrent, I don’t know what is

  12. Bet there is a nest of them near jakes way. They rarely tell where the crimes are committed. Get more police in east Santa Clarita and a police station so they can clean out the nests in the trailer parks too. People in the west side would not tolerate this and demand a clean out of criminals in their area. Good start SCV sheriffs.
