[KHTS] – Samuel Dixon Family Health Centers officials announced a new CEO for their Santa Clarita Valley health care centers.
The organization’s former Chief Operating Officer, Philip Solomon, is replacing J. Chris Mattingly, who was appointed CEO on an interim basis in February, said Gloria Mercado-Fortine, chairman of the board of directors for the community-based Samuel Dixon Family Health Centers.
“The board and I are just delighted to have appointed (Solomon) as our new CEO,” said Mercado-Fortine. “He has been in the field of community health for 18 years, and he knows our organization well.”
Solomon has been with the Samuel Dixon Family Health Centers for two years.
“He just brings a lot of skill, so that’s going to help us,” said Mercado-Fortine. “We’re very impressed with what he’s been doing and he’s already demonstrated that he can handle that growth (we’re anticipating).”
Solomon assumed control of an organization that runs three primary health centers providing immunizations and vaccines, physicals, screening and diagnostic tests, well baby care, preventative programs, family planning, women’s health services, prenatal services, treatment of illness and injury to low income residents of the Santa Clarita Valley.
The Reverend Samuel Dixon began the center 20 years ago in Val Verde, and the organization now operates multiple Santa Clarita Valley locations that serve more than 11,000 patients annually.
“(The SDFHC) mission is to enhance wellness by providing quality outpatient health care services and programs, health education, community resources and referrals,” according to a news release.
Mattingly replaced Cheryl Laymon, who resigned in January. He was hired after a search committee conducted by Gary Bess and Associates reviewed and prioritized candidates for consideration.
Sixteen years ago, SDFHC had a staff of four full-time employees, two part-timers and three per diem nurse practitioners, at the Val Verde Health Center, according to officials.
Now SDFHC has more than 30 employees, four contractors and four locations.
