[KHTS] – A Santa Cruz man suspected of transporting 84 pounds of pre-packaged marijuana was arrested Wednesday morning in Castaic by California Highway Patrol officers.
William Henry Russell Jr. allegedly crashed into a guardrail on the Interstate 5, north of the Templin Highway exit, in a white Chevy, according to a witness in a CHP report.
He then reportedly fled the scene southbound, driving erratically, according to the report.
A citizen contacted a CHP officer after witnessing the crash and the officer located the Chevy, which displayed damage on its right side consistent with guardrail damage, weaving in lanes just north of Lake Hughes Road.
The officer stopped Russell, on The Old Road, north of Lake Hughes Road, where Russell confirmed his involvement in the crash and exhibited signs of impairment, the report stated.
After field sobriety tests, he was arrested and charged for driving under the influence and hit and run.
Officers search Russell’s vehicle and allegedly found the pre-packaged marijuana within the Chevy.
Russell was then transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital for medical clearance and subsequently booked as charged at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, according to the report.
His bail was listed at $100,000 and he is due at Los Angeles County Superior Court in San Fernando on Friday, according to Sheriff’s Department officials.

Poor jerk p, he was sampling the goods for quality. Glad he’s sitting in jail. Someone out there won’t get the delivery they were expecting. Should squeeze that name out of him.
Transporting a plant! Burn him at the stake!
