[KHTS] – A vehicle fully engulfed in flames on the northbound Interstate 5 freeway near Parker Road in Castaic started a brush fire on the freeway shoulder Saturday afternoon.
California Highway Patrol officers responded to reports of a U-Haul truck full of household goods that was fully engulfed in flames in the far right lane of the freeway at 1:39 p.m.
The fire quickly spread to the brush on the freeway shoulder and burned approximately an eighth of an acre before it was knocked down by Los Angeles County firefighters at 2:01 p.m., said Rey Dong, L.A. County Fire Department dispatch supervisor.
There were no reported injuries and the cause of the vehicle fire is unknown, he said.
CHP officers closed the far right lane of the freeway while firefighters and California Department of Transportation officials responded to the scene.
Caltrans officials were still “cleaning up” the scene at approximately 2:45 p.m., according to Dong, and traffic remained backed up.

Another fine piece of UHaul’s quality rental fleet. Twice I rented a trailer only to find AFTER we loaded up and halfway to the destination that the brakes didn’t work.
Never EVER use Uhaul!!
Uhaul truck fire ? What a surprise! I used Rent-it. Nice trucks. Safe tires. Good customer service. Try them instead of a junker from uhaul!!
