A Division of State Architect inspector died Tuesday while on the job at Canyon High School, Hart district officials said.
The man, who was not identified pending notification of next of kin, was taking a preliminary look at the high school’s new auditorium project, said Gail Pinsker, Hart district spokeswoman.
“It’s sad to hear this happened,” Pinkser said, “and our thoughts are with the inspector’s family.”
The death was not a result of an on-site accident; it’s believed to have been caused by a medical issue unrelated to his work on the campus, officials said.
“It appears to be natural causes,” said Lt. Tom Bryski of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, adding the man reportedly died in the parking lot.
The auditorium project is in the very early stages, Pinsker said.
The following was sent to parents Tuesday:
Good afternoon Canyon,
This is Mr. Kuhlman calling with some important information for parents.
A medical emergency occurred today in the student parking lot involving an adult working with a construction crew on campus. The nature of the emergency required us to close down the parking lot while medical professionals arrived to address the situation.
Since media groups have arrived on the scene I want you to know that this has absolutely nothing to do with the concerns addressed earlier this week. The campus remains calm and students are free to leave campus if they have an off campus pass.
We apologize for any inconvenience for those students unable to leave immediately from the parking lot at the start of lunch and hope to reopen the parking lot as soon as possible.
Thank you for your patience. We will share more information at the appropriate time.
Mike Kuhlman
