[District Attorney] – A 31-year-old Littlerock man was found guilty Friday in the deadly mauling of a Palmdale woman by a pack of pit bulls, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.
The jury found Alex Donald Jackson guilty of second-degree murder, cultivating marijuana, possession of marijuana for sale and possession of a controlled substance, psilocybin, in case MA059722.
An allegation that Jackson was armed with a shotgun during the commission of the offense also was found true.
Sentencing has been scheduled for Oct. 3 in Department A19 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Antelope Valley Branch. Jackson faces 24 years to life in state prison.
On May 9, 2013, 63-year-old Pamela Devitt was out for a walk when she was attacked and killed by four pit bulls belonging to Jackson, according to court testimony. Evidence shown at trial proved that other victims had been attacked by his pit bulls on several prior occasions.
Jackson also had a marijuana grow operation at his residence on the 37000 block of 115th Street E, as revealed during trial testimony. Eight dogs were seized from his house and four of them had Devitt’s DNA on their fur, prosecutors said.
Police testified that during a search of his property they also found psilocybin.
The assigned prosecutors are Deputy District Attorneys Carolyn Yeh and Ryan Williams.
The case was investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Palmdale Station.
