The Domestic Violence Center of Santa Clarita Valley will host its third annual Purple Walk of Strength on Saturday, Oct. 11, at the College of the Canyons Cross Country Track, with opening ceremonies beginning at 8:00 a.m. and the race starting at 9:00 a.m. Registration is now open to men, women, children, families and community groups interested in raising awareness and funds to address domestic violence in Santa Clarita.
Modeled after the popular “paint or color runs” hosted across the nation, the Purple Walk of Strength paints participants in shades of purple to raise awareness about domestic violence and local resources for families.
“Domestic Violence affects everyone, from couples and families to entire communities,” said Linda Davies, executive director of the Domestic Violence Center of Santa Clarita Valley. “We want to provide information about the important role each and every person plays in stopping the cycle of abuse, from reporting incidents and providing resources to supporting programs that help families heal.”
October is national Domestic Violence Awareness month and there’s no better way to support intervention, prevention and education than to walk or run with neighbors and friends. Registration is $40 per person through October 10 at DVC-SCV.org and $50 on race morning.
Participants will enjoy an inspiring morning, an exciting race, food, raffles, swag bags and more. White Domestic Violence Center T-shirts will be available the morning of the race for $10, or participants can wear a white T-shirt of their choice.
All proceeds from the Purple Walk of Strength will benefit programs available at the Domestic Violence Center of Santa Clarita Valley, which believes everyone deserves a life free of violence. Domestic Violence knows no boundaries, but can be overcome when communities comes together in support of intervention, prevention and education.
