After dropping its last match to Biola University with a 1-0 heartbreaking loss, The Masters College women’s soccer team bounced back Saturday afternoon by beating Hope International University 5-0 on Pete Reese Field.
The win gives the seventh-ranked Lady Mustangs an overall record of 9-3-1 and 4-1-1 GSAC in GSAC play. Currently, TMC sits in third place in the conference standings behind No. 5 Concordia and GSAC-leading Biola.
The Lady Mustangs’ stout offense produced 30 shots that led to five unanswered goals from five different players.
In the 21st minute, Jessica Long (Wailuku, HI) put TMC on the board after knocking in a ball from Katie Farris (Santa Clarita, CA). Just two minutes later, Farris scored off an assist from Sarah Stead (Temecula, CA).
Three minutes into the second half, the Natasha Coyle (La Habra, CA) put the Lady Mustangs up 3-0. Stephanie Albright (San Gabriel, CA) later scored in the 78th minute, giving TMC a 4-0 advantage. Just as the match seemed to be winding down, Whitney Gomillion (Lancaster, CA) fed the ball to Taylor Rowden (Mission Viejo, CA) to cap things off at 5-0.
Jessica Zubia (Bakersfield, CA) did her job proficiently by not allowing any goals off the Royals’ four shots.
With wind back in their sails, the Lady Mustangs now look to Tuesday where they will take on the No. 12 Vanguard University Lions. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m. in Costa Mesa.
