The No. 18 state-ranked College of the Canyons volleyball team won its eighth straight game Friday night easily defeating Santa Monica College 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-18).
Head coach Lisa Hooper’s team was led by freshman outside hitter Brooke Garelick who posted 11 kills and a team-high 12 digs. Sophomore Serena LeDuff contributed a team-high 13 kills and 10 digs.
Setter Taylor Kasha was also key to COC’s success, as the sophomore distributed the ball to the tune of 38 assists while also recording two kills and eight digs. Kaitlyn Reiner contributed with nine points and a .583 kill percentage.
The Cougars (12-3, 4-0) sit atop the WSC South standings and are currently ranked No. 18 in the state, according to the most recent coaches poll. Canyons joins Santa Barbara City College as the only other WSC team to boast a perfect conference record.
During the current win streak the Cougars have only dropped two sets, winning 24 out of 26 possible sets.
COC will take its winning streak on the road for conference matchups against Bakersfield College on Wednesday, Oct. 22 and Antelope Valley College on Friday, Oct. 24
