[KHTS] – California Highway Patrol officers and emergency officials responded to a big rig collision in Castaic Tuesday morning.
The accident occurred on the southbound Interstate 5 freeway near the north lower crossover at 8:24 a.m. and crews were still on scene as of 11:30 a.m.
“Two semis are involved in the collision,” said CHP Officer Clive Sheen of the Newhall Station. “One jackknifed and hit the roadside rail. The driver who caused the accident is suspected of being under the influence.”
CHP officials issued a Sigalert and closed the left three lanes of the freeway.
CHP officers reported liquid leaking from one of the trucks onto the freeway around 8:31 a.m. and stopped the leakage around 9:22 a.m.
Los Angeles County Fire Department Hazardous Materials officials were called to the scene around 10:22 a.m.
It is unknown if there are any injuries.
Update 11:47 a.m.
CHP Officers report that one of the truck’s cabs caught fire at 11:36 a.m. The fire was reported out and battery wires to the truck were cut minutes later.
A driver of a blue Oldsmobile and other motorists are reportedly cutting through a fence onto Frontage Road to exit the freeway, CHP officers report.
