Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station detectives arrested a suspect for a pair of alleged Canyon Country break-ins Wednesday after residents reported suspicious activity.
Deputies received a call from a Santa Clarita resident of the 16700 block of Bainbury Street in Canyon Country around 11:08 a.m., officials said.
The alleged victim, a woman, told deputies a man knocked on her door, and then entered her home through the backdoor after she didn’t answer.
The victim confronted the suspect in her kitchen, and the suspect is believed to have been spooked and run away.
The suspect’s name is not yet being released by Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials, pending their investigation.
However, residents of the 16600 block of Shinedale Drive, less than a half-mile away, reported a suspected break-in about 12 minutes later, according to Sheriff’s Station officials.
Detectives with the Juvenile Intervention Team, or J-Team, who were in the area, detained a 19-year-old male suspect at gunpoint until Sheriff’s Station deputies arrived on scene and made the arrest. J-Team detectives focus on investigating juvenile and drug-related crime in the Santa Clarita Valley.
The case is part of an active investigation, so more information about the suspect is unavailable at this time, officials said.
Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials took the opportunity to remind residents about being especially vigilant about possible incidents during the holidays.
“The holidays are coming, so we ask residents be cognizant of their neighborhood,” said Deputy Josh Dubin of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Crime Prevention Unit, “and if they see something, say something.”
