Closures for I-5 Truck Lanes Project

In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, there will be no construction closures for this project from Wednesday, November 26, at 6 a.m. to Sunday, November 30, at 11:59 p.m.

Santa Clarita — The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) plans to implement the closures listed below December 1-5, 2014, as part of a project that is constructing a new segment of truck lane on southbound I-5 and adding a mixed-flow lane in both directions on I-5 between Pico Canyon Road/Lyons Avenue and SR-14. Ramp closures will be nonconsecutive. Detours will be signed. No unusual levels of dust, noise or vibration are expected. Closures are subject to change.

NORTHBOUND I-5

Lanes

• Up to three lanes of northbound I-5 between the end of the existing truck lane and Lyons Avenue: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Note: The most restrictive closures (i.e., the most lanes closed) will occur between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. A signed detour will be provided when necessary.

Ramps

• Calgrove Boulevard on-ramp and off-ramp: 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

SOUTHBOUND I-5

Lanes

• Up to three lanes of southbound I-5 between Lyons Avenue and the end of the existing truck lane: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Note: The most restrictive closures (i.e., the most lanes closed) will occur between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. A signed detour will be provided when necessary.

• Truck route collector: 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Ramps

• Calgrove Boulevard on-ramp and off-ramp: 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

• Eastbound/westbound Lyons Avenue on-ramp: 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Connector

• Southbound I-5 connector to northbound SR-14: 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

About the Project

This project is constructing a new segment of truck lane on southbound I-5 and adding a mixed-flow lane in both directions on I-5 between Pico Canyon Road/Lyons Avenue and SR-14. Three median retaining walls and two short sections of outside retaining walls will be built to accommodate this widening.

The improvements will ease traffic delays, improve goods movement, absorb traffic growth due to population increase (both residential and commercial), and enhance safety by separating truck traffic from passenger vehicles.
