The City of Santa Clarita, along with the National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS), is offering a free Positive Sports Parenting workshop for residents on March 12 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Santa Clarita Activities Center located at 20880 Centre Pointe Parkway.
The interactive workshop explores the role parents play in supporting their children and promoting a fun, positive experience in sport environments. Participants will learn about what is expected of them as a sports parent, their role in keeping sports fun and how to understand and manage a relationship with the team’s coach.
The Parenting Association for Youth Sports (PAYS), an important branch of the National Alliance for Youth Sports, is an educational program that offers simple and effective ways for parents involved in youth athletics to become an advocate for a more enjoyable and positive youth sports experience.
The Positive Sports Parenting course will be led by Jerrid McKenna who serves as the Santa Clarita NAYS Chapter Director and possesses more than six years of youth sports administration experience in various organizations and sports environments. The course will include a video learning experience featuring ESPN SportsCenter anchor, Chris McKendry, covering various topics related to injury prevention, sports safety, how to become a model for sportsmanship and much more.
Completion of the course includes a one-year membership to the exclusive online Parents Association for Youth Sports website, which offers access to additional resources and tools to help parents become the best youth sports role model possible.
