You Know I'm Right | Commentary by Betty Arenson
| Friday, Mar 6, 2015

bettyarensonLast week’s topic was the recent statements of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, opining that he does not believe President Barack Obama loves this country as evidenced by this president’s own actions and words. The combination makes him appear as a critic of America more than a supporter.

As predicable, the first bat flying out of the cage was Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D. Fla., the Democrats’ National Committee Chairwoman. She said: “One of the GOP frontrunners was sitting feet away and didn’t say a word. If the Republican Party really wants to be taken seriously, really wants to avoid its problems of the past, now is the time for its leaders to stop this kind of nonsense. ‘Enough,’ and Jeb Bush, Scott Walker, Marco Rubio, now it is your turn. Chris Christie, Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, stand up and say enough.”

Debbie has profoundly earned the title of “hypocrite” – and here’s why.

Debbie was frenzied in smearing Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker leading up to the November 2014 elections. Walker is a proven positive entity, and Debbie’s day job is to seek and destroy. Democrats and the unions fought hard and dirty, including even busing in their own from various locations to protest.

Those smarmy actions failed. In the end, Walker endured and prevailed in three elections in four years as Wisconsin’s successful governor. He campaigned on actually governing a state into fiscal sanity and then honored his campaign promises by doing just that – concepts wholly foreign to Debbie.

Thus it was time for the slime advance. She utilized the manufactured “war on women” refrain, telling a group: “Scott Walker has given women the back of his hand. I know that is stark. I know that is direct. But that is reality. … What Republican tea party extremists like Scott Walker are doing is they are grabbing us by the hair and pulling us back.”

Debbie Wassermann Schultz’s definition of the word “enough” must be a challenge for her.

Beyond this ignominy, Debbie needs to awaken to awareness of threats to her day job as DNC Chair – threats not coming from Republicans but from her own party.

The DNC Chair is a powerful position that includes controlling the purse strings, but Debbie has fallen from the graces of many name-brand Democrats including President Obama.

Politico reported late last year that top Democratic operatives wanted her chairmanship ended and had at least one replacement in mind. Their problems: (1) she is a big fundraiser, and (2) ousting a woman from the upper ranks of the Democrats’ party would give bad “optics” that would foster problems with both women and Jewish donors. The operatives had reason to be concerned.

Politico’s February 2015 report is that in 2013, Debbie lined up supporters for an anti-Obama theme of being anti-woman and anti-Semitic if she were ousted before her term is up in 2017. Backmail.

The Obama campaign left a $25 million debt for Organizing for America, a campaign machine with a 501c4 status (a nonprofit apparently approved by former IRS hooligan Lois Lerner).

Apparently realizing the flagrant dislike for her, Debbie placed herself last in line at a fundraiser’s photo-op to say, “Mr. President, I just want you to know, the DNC has retired its debt.” Reportedly Obama replied: “Debbie, you think I don’t know? I’m the president of the United States.”

This DNC Chairman must feel pretty secure, perhaps falsely so, not to see the vibrancy of that comment from her president and not to feel some peril with regard to her position. Her own existence should be paramount to her mudslinging at successful Republicans.

Debbie’s also out of favor with Dems because she has her own PAC (DWS PAC) that accepts money from lobbyists. This self-serving PAC is of concern to Democrats because lines are blurred between collecting money for her own political ambitions and serving the Democrats’ party – her day job.

The DNC asserts that its policy is not to accept donations from lobbyists (wink-wink), but the DWS PAC does accept those moneys. Debbie is quick to declare that DWS PAC is separate and apart from the DNC, but she isn’t convincing many Democrats of that.

She there is no problem; “DWS PAC is a separate entity,” and the initials mean Democrats Win Seats.

Although Debbie denies the initials have any relation to her name, her father used to be DWS PAC’s treasurer. Further, it is run day-to-day by Jason O’Malley, whose salary is an aggregated payment shared between the DNC, DWS PAC and Wasserman Schultz’s congressional campaign committee. His work station is located in the finance department at DNC headquarters.

In 2012, Debbie endeavored to get the DNC to foot the bill for her clothing at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C. The staff of the DNC at its Washington, D.C., headquarters refused, as did President Obama’s reelection headquarters office in Chicago.

Not to be dissuaded, Debbie repeated the pressure for Obama’s 2013 inauguration. Her aggressiveness to get the clothing nod earned her a call from Valerie Jarret, Obama’s senior advisor and omnipresent sidekick, telling her to stop the quest.

A later report said: “Unbelievably, according to independent sources, she tried again, asking for the DNC to buy clothing for the 2013 White House Correspondents’ Dinner.”

And to think Debbie Wassermann Schultz is telling Republicans about “enough.”

Betty Arenson has lived in the SCV since 1968 and describes herself as a conservative who’s concerned about progressives’ politics and their impacts on the country, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She says she is unashamed to own a gun or a Bible, couldn’t care less about the color of the president’s skin, and demands that he uphold his oath to protect and follow the Constitution of the United States in its entirety.
