Water ScheduleSanta Clarita Valley water officials are calling for a return to the summer watering schedule this week for their water conservation plan.
“We’re switching back to the the day’s a week schedule,” said Tom Campbell, president of the Castaic Lake Water Agency. “The watering days are going to switch.”
Starting April 1, the state-mandated watering schedule until Oct. 31, is: Even-numbered addresses can water their lawns Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday; odd-numbered addresses can water Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
The moves are a conservation effort implemented by Santa Clarita Valley water officials in response to Gov. Jerry Brown’s emergency drought declaration last January.

He called upon Californians to reduce water usage by 20 percent.
In August 2014, the following provisions were added to the water reduction plan.
In the plan, the following actions were prohibited:
Watering a landscape in a way that causes runoff onto an adjacent property, non-irrigated area or parking lot, etc.
Hoses that don’t have a shut-off valve
Watering driveways or sidewalk.
The use of potable water in a fountain that doesn’t recirculate.

For information on the water restrictions, visit here.

According to the plan on the website: On the first violation, a written notice is provided in the mail or in person.
For a second violation within 12 calendar months of the first, a second written warning will be provided. The third violation could result in a written $50 fine.
Santa Clarita Valley water officials did not issue any written fines last year, and the Santa Clarita Valley did reduce its overall usage by more than 10 percent.

From CLWA:

Beginning Tuesday, April 1, the summer watering schedule set forth by the Santa Clarita Valley Water Committee will go into effect. This new schedule will increase the number of days per week that residents and businesses can water from two to three during the months of April through October.

“Residents and businesses will be allowed to water three days per week starting April 1,” stated Castaic Lake Water Agency Water Resources Manager Dirk Marks. “Some people may be used to watering two days per week, and they can continue to do so, as long as they water on the days that are consistent with the new schedule.”

“As the weather gets warmer and we get into summer, residents and businesses will probably want to use all three watering days,” said Marks.

As the drought continues on into its fourth year, the Castaic Lake Water Agency is helping SCV residents and businesses to use water more efficiently by offering educational opportunities, water-saving rebates and by promoting best irrigation practices to reduce runoff.

Residents can learn about gardening, conservation and irrigation with CLWA’s monthly SCV-Friendly Gardening classes and Drip Irrigation classes. The SCV Gardening class highlights a different topic each month, while the Drip class demonstrates how to convert your current irrigation to a more efficient drip system.

For those residents and businesses looking to make a change in their landscape, CLWA offers a Lawn Replacement Program that reduces outdoor water use by replacing water-thirsty lawns with water-efficient landscaping.

“Water efficient practices are encouraged at all times,” stated Marks. “All residents and businesses with outdoor landscape can and should follow best irrigation practices to reduce runoff.” The steps are easy to follow:

1. Water for three minutes
2. Wait one hour
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 up to three times

But it’s totally cool for WDP to dump over 7million gallons of water. Do as we say, not as we do.

  2. And for commercial and city properties to overrun their watering into the streets during the middle of the day. SMH

  3. Will the city itself be adhering to its own rules???

  4. but yet we are building more homes witch will take more water ugh

Also all new swimming pools being built at least 20,000 gallons or more to fill a pool & all the new homes being built more water being used, what about those 2 Important Issues?

  10. Somebody better tell my HOA cuz there doing whatever they want.

  11. We need to all work toward a common goal, to save water. If we don’t see the city, Valencia, west ridge, and golf courses included, parks too. Watering 3 days a week isn’t that difficult. Lots of water can be saved inside so easily. Just try and we will all benefit.

  12. Kris Doyle Kris Doyle says:

I’m sorry but I will continue to keep my lawn and garden green and healthy. We as homeowners will loss $ in property value if I let my landscaping go. Until our “BIG”guys start to conserve, it wont matter much, what we save not watering a day or 2, like Helen said we r like a drop of rain compared to the waste that come higher up. DWP shame on you and SCV, a big kick in the A$$ to both of you. until you 2 take it seriously, nobody else will and don’t expect us too either.

  13. Grant Thomas Grant Thomas says:

  14. Does this mean the city will actually stop wasting water all around the community too?? Cant even begin to count ALL of the broken sprinklers, or timers that are compleatly off in this city and run all day long. Such a waste of water.

  15. Plus hurrican harbor will be up and running soon…so we have that…

  16. I’ve been out of town. Have we been getting a lot of rain. If they can add twenty thousand new homes why do we have to conserve water.

  17. Ben Stroba Ben Stroba says:

I will stick with 2 day until yard turns brown. I agree that comercial and businesses should watch their usage and conserve.

  18. Marc Deagon Marc Deagon says:

Tell the Santa Clarita Water District that until they actually have a “Real” website to track and pay your water bill, I will water when I want and whenever I want. So stick it in your ear.

  19. Marc Deagon Marc Deagon says:

80% of ALL the water used in California is used for agriculture. Turning off your facet to brush your teeth ain’t gonna save the Golden State.

  20. Otto Müller Jr don’t know if you saw this yet or not?

  21. So why are they building more homes?

  22. I don’t know why they are building so many houses in Santa Clarita. Isn’t it time to stop those big builder companies to stop building in California if we don’t have enough water!!

  23. Michael Kulka says:

    Two major thoughts.
1)CLWA doesn’t answer to the City of Santa Clarita
    2) Deep well injection and hydraulic fracturing use millions of gallons of our fresh water. Time to find other ways to dump brine and find energy!!!

  24. Joyce Menta Joyce Menta says:

We are going to cut back but don’t want brown lawns !!

  25. Judi Porter Judi Porter says:

Luckily I do not have a lawn but plants will live with less water. Lots of cactus

  26. THERE IS NO TRY… ONLY DO. my goddess. Let your lawns go brown. Property values? Seriously? You planning to sell soon? Probably not. Let’s work together and save water. Then let’s talk about selling. We are all in this together. If you don’t feel the same, then I am against you – and so help you.
