[KHTS] – Investigators are still looking into the fatal crash that left two men dead after their Corvette slammed into a tree and ignited a small fire Saturday morning.
The collision occurred in the 34200 block of Bouquet Canyon Road near the Bouquet Canyon Reservoir, around 10:50 a.m. in Newhall, according to a CHP collision report.
A 2014 Chevrolet Corvette was driving northbound on the curvy road when, for unknown reasons, the driver lost control of the car causing it to drift into the southbound lane.
The driver, identified as John Doe 84 by Los Angeles County Coroner’s officials, over-corrected, causing the car to veer to the right into a dirt embankment, according to the initial investigation.
The drivers side then struck a large oak tree which caused the car to erupt in flames.
The driver of the car sustained fatal third degree burns to his entire body and died from his injuries at the scene.
Witnesses to the collision pulled the passenger, 69-year-old Raymond Perriea Silva, of Porter Ranch, from the car and attempted to administer life saving procedures but were unsuccessful.
Next of kin notifications have not been completed and the incident is still under investigation.
Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash at this time, CHP officials said.
