[KHTS] – A judge sentenced a Santa Clarita man to five years formal probation, 373 days credit for time served and lifetime registration as a sex offender.

Michael Anthony Byrne, 23, of Canyon Country, pleaded in court to one count of meeting a minor for lewd purposes.

The charges stemmed from accusations he solicited and engaged in sexual conduct with a 15-year-old girl he met online, officials said Tuesday.

Byrne faced preliminary arraignment in November on five counts — meeting a minor for lewd behavior, two counts of oral copulation with a minor under 16 years of age, sexual penetration by a foreign object and unlawful sexual conduct.

He was arrested Nov. 17, 2014, at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies after reportedly turning himself in, according to Sgt. Brian Hudson of the Special Victims Bureau of the Sheriff’s Department.
Detectives suspect he used a social media app called Whisper to meet a 15-year-old Santa Clarita girl, officials said.

The two then allegedly engaged in a sexual relationship. The crimes happened on or between Aug. 1-16, 2014, according to the complaint.
The charges are much more severe if the alleged victim is age 14 or under, according to state law.

  8. I remember this story! It was his daughter! So sad, that we live in a world where sex offenders get probation and people who steal get 5+years

  9. Nena Guzmán Nena Guzmán says:

Really??? Por eso seguimos de mal en peor!!!

  10. Why do sex offenders get off so easy. No wonder they keep doing it. I know someone who got 3 years for violating his probation because he drove to work on a suspended license. The laws need to be fixed. This should be a mandatory 5 year minimum.

  16. I put some blame onto that site, Whisper, and neither one of these kids are innocent. They are both guilty of being stupid. That being said, this idiot is a weirdo who will pay the rest of his life.

  17. Todd Allen Todd Allen says:

Need to hang him and the judge that let that slime loose

  18. There is no rehabilitation for sex offenders. Keep them caged.

  19. And 3 strikes for burglary 25 to life. Serious problem with laws in California.

  20. Get rid of him, lives are ruined and he gets nothing, he will do it again.

  21. Wait, his own daughter? That to me is even worse. Pedophile, rapist, and his own child? Five years isn’t even enough!

  22. Jamie J. Ondras it’s wasn’t his daughter he doesn’t have kids he’s only in his early 20’s it was a teenage girl who he says lied to him about her age and looked much older than she was. If what he says is true it could happen to anyone.

  23. Sarah Sedusa Blackwell

  24. So your now on public probation! Lets see how that works for you!

  25. He will do it again.

  26. And then there is the Duggar sex offender. Years prior those who knew kept quiet but when found out, went to therapy, saw priest, talked to local sheriff, stepped down from his job and finally the statute for this pedafile is up. It all so disgusting yet not surprising, even predictable….What help did the victim(s) get and do they still have to be subjected to him as a painful reminder. They say too young to remember….like hell…

  27. Only rehabilitation is taking this man. Hood off

  28. Nadiya says:

Disgusting how sex offenders can get so little punishment. He’ll just do it again, that’s fairly common. And that victim will pay for the rest of her life.

Sex offenders get beat up on prison they have to separate them so a fair punishment would be throw them with the gangbangers and let them do the punishing
